Most people thought it was the end of the road for the phantom series, but as we have it, Tecno finally released a new addition – Tecno Phantom 9 to its flagship devices earlier this month. Although the time expectation for the release of another phantom was last year, however Tecno decided to roll out the Camon series instead.
Anyway, now that we finally have the new phantom device which goes for about N78, 000, question is, how impressive is it and is it worth buying?
First, take a look at the key features; you can however get the full specifications on our website

The phone looks more attractive than its predecessor with its gradient color called aurora, and plastic body. It has a water drop notch which can be hidden in the settings (for those that do not like the notch feature), and a full screen which is protected by a Gorilla Glass 5. On the front panel is the front camera with a front led flash, on the side, you get the volume and the power buttons while below the panel is the speaker, a headphone jack and a micro USB charging port; this is a downside as we were expecting a type C USB port like the recent flagship devices.
The 6.4 inches device comes with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a full HD display. It is Tecno’s first device to feature an Amoled display. Powered by Octa-core 2.3 GHz Mediatek Helio P35 processor, Tecno phantom 9 runs HIOS 5.0 based on Android 9 Pie with 6GB RAM and 128GB of in built storage (up to 256GB).
The camera configuration of the Phantom 9 is quite impressive as it packs a triple camera setup – 16MP + 8MP + 2MP with quad-LED flash, as the main camera, and a single 32MP front camera. The picture quality however from both cameras is not super but pretty remarkable when compared to its predecessor.
Phantom 9 is powered by a 3,500mAh battery, however users complained that the battery takes about 2hours plus to get fully charged (i.e from 1 – 100%). The battery life is also on the average side as it doesn’t give a full day usage on heavy consumption.
Another feature we are impressed with on the phantom 9 amongst other features is the on-display fingerprint scanner. The device is the first among Tecno’s flagship devices to have a fingerprint scanner on the screen. As nice as this is, the feature has a downside; you have to place your finger twice on the scanner, and the second touch takes a couple of seconds before the phone unlocks.
The Tecno Phantom 9 is a big step up from Tecno, although the device isn’t entirely great, but with the amount it’s being sold for, we believe the features are really amazing.
