Huawei Y8s is official, with two selfie cameras

The latest smartphone from Huawei has just been unveiled and it comes with a dual selfie camera. Huawei Y8s was listed on Huawei's website in the Arab country of Jordan. The device comes with a 6.5 inches IPS LCD touchscreen display with Full HD+ resolution, and on the panel is a small notch at the top wide enough to accommodate the 2 selfie cameras which comprise a main 8MP wide angle lens plus a 2MP depth sensor for background blur. The back panel features also a dual rear camera setup which has a main 48MP wide angle lens accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor just like the selfie camera. Both are lined up in a vertical array, with an LED flash. Sadly Huawei Y8s doesn't come with the latest Android OS meaning it runs on EMUI 9.1 UI based on Android 9 (Pie) and is powered by Hisillicon Kirin 710 chipset. The device comes in 2 storage variants - 4GB RAM to 64GB and 128GB storage capacity. The battery is at 4000 mAh  chargeable with a Micro USB connector. Although Huawei Y8s is already officially listed, however there is no word regarding the price and availability. Click to view the full specifications of Huawei Y8s

Huawei is working on its version of Google Maps

Shortly after the US ban saga, it seems the company is really determined to maintain/achieve some level of independence. The Chinese tech giant however has confirmed that it is working on its own mapping service called Map Kit - an alternative to Google Maps. Currently, Huawei cannot use Google services, including Google Maps, in its smartphones. Actually, the company cannot use US technologies without some sort of special approval from US govt. This is why it has been taking initiatives to stand on its own. According to the Chinese media, Map Kit is not directly for consumer use, but rather a tool for software developers to harness the software capabilities. Map Kit will reportedly offer real-time traffic conditions, lane change recognition, and augmented reality features. It will be connected to local mapping services, cover 150 countries and regions, and be available in 40 languages.

Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 Vs Y9 2019

Have you seen the recent addition/release to the Huawei Y series? It’s called Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 - successor to the Huawei Y9 2019. The Y9 and Y9 Prime are really similar with certain specifications, although there are some major differences as the Y9 Prime is actually supposed to be an upgrade. Question then is, what sets them aside? Well, we won’t bore you by going into detailed specifications and builds of both phones. We will quickly state the attributes both phones do not have in common in this article. However, if you are the full specifications type of human, kindly view this from the phone specifications section on our blog. Now let’s get right to it… The major difference between the phones is the design/display type; while the Y9 2019 features a 6.5 inch panel with a notch that houses two front cameras instead of one, the Y9 prime 2019 has a 6.59-inch screen size with full-HD+ resolution which is a bit larger than the Y9. The Y9 Prime has a notch free screen display and this is because of the 16MP Motorized pop-up AI selfie camera which is fast becoming the trend for some smartphones in 2019 by the way, and unlike the y9 Prime 2019, the y9 2019 packs a double 16 + 2 MP front camera as mentioned earlier. Speaking of cameras, the Y9 Prime sports a triple camera set up at the rear, consisting of a 16 MP wide angle, 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. Y9 2019 on the other hand came with a double 13 MP and 2 MP depth sensor similar to the selfie camera. Another difference is the operating system that powers both phones; while Y9 runs on Android Oreo (8), Y9 Prime is based on the latest Android 9.0 (Pie); EMUI 9, although, both phones are powered by the Kirin 710 octa-core chipset and a 4000 mAh battery. When it comes to connectivity, Y9 2019 still uses a Micro USB, while its successor, Y9 prime 2019, uses a 2.0 Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. And lastly, Y9 Prime comes in one RAM and storage option - 4GB RAM and 128 inbuilt storage which doubles the 64GB storage of the Y9 2019. You can see that although the Y9 2019 is not bad at all, the Y9 Prime 2019 is quite a catch. However, don’t forget to order…

Huawei Ban – U.S companies now allowed to continue selling to Huawei

Apparently the U.S government and the Chinese government have settled their dispute regarding the trade ban. For those that were never aware, sometime in May, the United State President Trump placed a ban on Companies from doing business with Huawei due to claims of threats on national security. This was quite a setback for the Chinese tech giant, although, they now their own software. We guess they had anticipated an occurrence of this magnitude. However, the ban on selling of U.S tech and equipment to Huawei is being lifted as Trump announced on Saturday, that "US companies can once again sell their equipment to Huawei," as long as the transactions won't present a "great, national emergency problem." Also we learnt that this reprieve also applies to being able to acquire basic components like Qualcomm processors and Google’s Android OS. This is definitely good news and a relief for Huawei phone users that have been in a state of panic since the ban.

Facebook Bans Pre-installation of Apps on Huawei Phones

Huawei Phones will no longer come with WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Apps   It wasn’t that long ago that U.S banned its companies from supplying technology to Huawei and also using its equipment, and Google has also said earlier that it would no longer provide Android software and services for Huawei phones starting from August. Earlier today, the Chinese tech giant received another blow as it learned that Facebook will no longer allow pre-installation of its apps on Huawei phones – this ban covers Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger and the main Facebook App. However, this ban applies to only future phones that Huawei will bring into the market. People that are already using Huawei phones still have access to Facebook app and its subsidiaries. Facebook have said that although it is stopping pre-installation of apps on Huawei phones, it will however keep providing updates to existing Huawei users. Huawei phone users that do not have Facebook and subsidiary apps already preinstalled can still download the apps from Google Play store. Although, this option will no longer be available from August, which is when Google’s restriction on its software will come in play.
